Inter Milan approach Portsmouth for Muntari

Inter Milan have reportedly approached Portsmouth to open talks over Sulley Muntari. The Ghana international only joined Pompey from Udinese last summer and enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League. He was recently linked with a move to Juventus, but Serie A rivals Inter have now entered the chase for Muntari, according to Sky Sports News. Inter appear to have stepped up their interest in the player after failing to tempt Chelsea into selling Frank Lampard. Muntari, who scored seven goals last term, has returned for pre-season training this week and stated he was looking forward to the new campaign with Pompey.

Chelsea offer Lampard stunning £40M deal

Chelsea have offered Frank Lampard a new £40 million contract to stay in London. The Daily Express says Lampard has been offered a record-breaking £39million, five-year-deal by Chelsea which will make him Britain's highest-paid footballer. Lampard, after weeks of wrangling, has finally been offered the deal he wants at about £150,000 a week and is poised to commit himself to Stamford Bridge for the rest of his career. A Chelsea source said: "The club are desperate to keep hold of Frank. They had talks with him just before the China tour which they hope will finally convince him to stay long term. I know Frank is very tempted by the offer as it means he could potentially see the rest of his career out at Chelsea, and there is every chance he could sign. "However, a lot of bad feeling was created when details of the contract negotiations were being publicly discussed by the club and there are still some issues to iron out."

Ronaldinho pushing Kaka towards Chelsea

AC Milan's capture of Ronaldinho is pushing Kaka towards Chelsea, it has been revealed. Sport says Kaka is unimpressed by Milan's signing of his Brazilian rival. He fears the team spirit at Milan could go the same way as what happened with Brazil during the 2006 World Cup, which led to Kaka questioning the commitment of some of his Selecao teammates. Kaka's lifestyle simply doesn't square with Ronaldinho's and he is now seriously considering jumping ship and joining Luiz Felipe Scolari, who is also deeply religious, at Chelsea.

Makelele delighted to complete move from Chelsea to PSG

Former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele is pleased with his move to PSG. The veteran midfielder joined the Parc des Princes outfit after being allowed to call time on his five-year stint with Chelsea. The 35-year-old, who had a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, revealed the Londoners allowed him to leave the club to pursue his dream of joining his wife and son, who live in Paris. "I'm very happy, everything went well," said Makelele. "It took some time but I wanted this so much that Chelsea gave me the possibility of finishing my career in my own country. "It's a very important challenge for me but also a very difficult one. I felt that my cycle at Chelsea was coming to an end. "I'm coming to bring a little more experience. I'm not coming like a Messiah but to teach what I also learned when young." The move to Paris will likely be Makelele's last, ending a career that has included stints in Spain and England. However, the midfielder is not ready to end his playing days in the near future. "People always tell me I'm 35. That doesn't bother me, I don't notice my age," he continued. "I still have the same energy on the pitch. If I can play until I'm 45 like that, I will. "I have done a tour of the best leagues and now I'm back where it all began. It will be a good way to finish."

Man Utd boss Ferguson warns Ronaldo against Madrid move

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has told Cristiano Ronaldo he would be making a big mistake joining Real Madrid. He said: "I have a responsibility for all my players and their futures are a big concern for a coach. If you were asking advice and it was your son, you'd give him the best advice possible on his career. "I honestly believe that could be the worst thing he could do; going to Real Madrid. "He's 23 years old and he's at a fantastic football club. It's the best for him." Ronaldo signed a long-term deal last season in which United won the Champions League and retained their Premier League title. He is currently sidelined for three months after an ankle operation following the European Championships. Ferguson reiterated that he expects Ronaldo to play a massive role again next season. He said: "The future is he signed a five-year contract last year and he has four years left. That's definite. I know that, I've seen his signature. "Young lads can be twisted by the talk of money and the moves that are happening all the time in modern-day football. "After the final in Moscow he was the happiest boy in the world. I think he knows genuinely where the best club is to be and that's Manchester United."

The Barca president has instructed his No2, Rafa Yuste, to push the boat out and find him a big-name in the class of Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Dimitar Berbatov (Tottenham) or Emmanuel Adebayor (Arsenal). However, Yuste's hands are tied until Barca free up funds by finding a buyer for Samuel Eto'o.

Berbatov on the verge of being a ManU player

Manchester United have agreed to pay Tottenham £28 million for Dimitar Bebatov, who have set aside £17 million of that fee to sign Blackburn's David Bentley in a move that could spark a transfer domino effect. Tottenham had been warned by United that they would be not be held to ransom in their pursuit to sign Berbatov, after they had an initial £20 million approach rebuffed over the weekend, setting a maximum limit of £25 million on the Bulgarian striker. But reports suggest that both clubs have since reached a comprise for £2 million less than the original £30 million asking price Spurs had demanded for the player, who has scored 27 goals in the Premier League since his arrival from German side Bayer Leverkusen two years ago. United want to pay Tottenham a fee of £18 million up front with the rest of the transfer payable after success-related clauses and appearances, similar to the arrangement they struck with the north London club for Michael Carrick in 2006. Berbatov, 27, has made no secret of his desire to move to the champions in past and his agent Emil Danchev confirmed: "Manchester United have expressed interest in Berbatov but I cannot comment on the issue further." Although the north London club publicly announced that Berbatov is not for sale, it is understood that manager Juande Ramos had being planning the forthcoming campaign without the forward since the end of last season. In his place, Spurs have a number of options they are exploring. Russia's Andrei Arshavin and Espanyol's Luis Garcia have been mentioned while Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz is a possibility at £10 million. Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o, deemed surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, is thought to be Ramos' first choice replacement. One Blackburn Rovers player almost certainly on his way to White Hart Lane though, is David Bentley - identified by Ramos earlier in the summer as one of his primary transfer targets. The Spaniard aims to complete a deal for the unsettled England international by including goalkeeper Paul Robinson as a makeweight. Robinson's exchange to Ewood Park would see him replace Brad Friedel who would be granted permission to seal a move to Aston Villa with the midlands club poised to sign the American goalkeeper for £2.5 million. Friedel's pending arrival at Villa Park would end manager Martin O'Neill's lingering interest in Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson, who spent last season on loan at the club but priced out of an immediate return with his £10 million valuation. Newly-promoted Stoke City have reportedly lodged a £4 million offer for Carson's services but could yet face competition from Middlesbrough. Bentley, 23, has been linked to a host of Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and Liverpool, since his admission that he wanted to leave Blackburn following former manager Mark Hughes departure to Manchester City last month. Although new boss Paul Ince is desperate to retain Bentley on his books he is, however, resigned to losing the former Arsenal player with Liverpool's £6 million rated Jermaine Pennant earmarked as a direct replacement. Bentley, capped six times by his country, has remained resolute on his wish to leave the club in favour of a return to London in a move to enhance his England credentials under national coach Fabio Capello and it is seemingly likely Tottenham will soon formally announce his arrival.

Juventus Seal Poulsen Deal

Juventus have completed the signing of Sevilla midfielder Christian Poulsen, the Italian club said on Monday. The Denmark international, 28, has moved for 9.75 million euros (7.7 million pounds) and penned a four-year deal, the club said in a statement. Juve, who enter the Champions League qualifiers next month after finishing third in Serie A last term, have been seeking a new midfielder throughout the close-season. Poulsen's arrival means it is less likely Liverpool's Xabi Alonso will be moving to Turin while a deal for Inter Milan midfielder Dejan Stankovic also looks dead. Juve fans do not like signing players from bitter rivals Inter and there was anger from some supporters when news leaked of their club's interest in Stankovic. The purchase of Poulsen has also led to a lukewarm reaction from some Juve fans, who feel the defensive midfielder is too similar to their tough-tackling Mali international Mohamed Sissoko. A more attacking option is required, they say. Poulsen is likely to have opposition fans on his back during his first few months in Italy. Former Italy striker Francesco Totti was banned at Euro 2004 for spitting at the Dane but said he had been strongly provoked, while AC Milan were unhappy with the midfielder's conduct in a Champions League match against his former club Schalke in 2005. "I am a defensive midfielder but I can also play in a more advanced position," Poulsen said. "My hope is to be able to surprise the Italian public, who consider me a rough player, and show I also have good technique."

Ronaldinho close to being a Milan Player

According to reports in Italy, Barcelona and Brazilian international Ronaldinho is days away from signing a two-year deal with Italian giants AC Milan. The fee is reported to be around £12.5m. Ronaldinho rejected an offer from Premiership side Manchester City, and decided Milan was his best option, even though City had offered him £120k a-week-deal. Although Ronaldinho is likely to be an AC Milan player next season, Barcelona have stated "Ronaldinho will have to report for training on Monday, the first session of the 2008-09 season." If the signing goes ahead this week, this would likely rule out any possibility of Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor joining AC Milan.
